Marc Rettig

Fit Associates LLC
Pittsburgh, PA
Marc is a principal of Fit Associates LLC. After an eager first career in software systems and an influential career in ethnographic research and interaction design, Marc finds himself confronting questions: “What does design look like when it partners with life first, rather than business first?” “How do we make the shift from products for individuals to lasting outcomes at social scale?” “What if we married iteration and emergence?” In pursuit of answers, Marc is drawing ideas and methods from design and creative practices, organizational change, facilitation, co-design, living systems theory and personal development.

During the past two decades, Marc’s work involved the design of interactions, products, and services. He has worked with corporations in many sectors, including Philips, Nissan, Microsoft, Comcast, Whirlpool, Seagate and SAP, as well as numerous startup companies.

Marc is a Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Practice in the Carnegie Mellon Graduate School of design, and a founding faculty member of the groundbreaking MFA in Design for Social Innovation program at the School of Visual Arts in New York. He was the 2003 Nierenberg Chair of Design at Carnegie Mellon, and has also taught at the IIT Institute of Design in Chicago.

In between it all, Marc does his best to improve his cooking and photography.
